The tweet heard ‘round the world! On August 26, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement in a joint tweet with a sweet joke from Swift: “Your english teacher and gym teacher are getting married!” Swifties around the world celebrated the good news, accompanied with the excitement of Swift’s most recent album, “The Life of A Showgirl.” While we have no details whatsoever about when the wedding of the pop culture century will take place or any other information, many have taken to the internet to share what songs they want to hear at the celebration. The Current has jumped on the trend, so here are my picks.
Aisle Walk Down:
“Lover, Instrumental Version” by Taylor Swift: The title track from Swift’s 7th album has been played at countless weddings since it was released, and to play the instrumental version would be a charming nod to Swift’s career without making the moment about business.
“Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley: This song is a staple of love ballads and means a lot to many who have played it at their wedding. It is a timeless classic that is sweet at any wedding, including one of the most influential couples on the planet.
First Dance:
“Thinking out loud” by Ed Sheeran: As far as first dance songs go, this one takes the cake. It’s a tearjerker that sure to be meaningful and, as an added bonus, Sheeran is one of Swift’s closest friends and she has confirmed he will be at the wedding.
“Sparks” by Coldplay: This love invoking song has been on Swift’s playlist since she was a teen, and it’s one of her most played hits, she said on USA Today. Playing it at her wedding would make a sweet full circle moment from her days of singing about her first love to being with him.
“Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac: This song would make for a more upbeat first dance and is a fun option if the bride and groom-to-be want to switch things up a bit. It is also a nice nod to Stevie Nicks, one of Swift’s lifelong inspirations and mentors.
Reception Dance Party:
“Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness: One of the most recognizable moments from Taylor and Travis’s relationship was at the US Open, where they jammed out to this song during a commercial break. Dancing to this song after saying their vows is a cute callback to the relationship.
“Bluest Flame” by Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco: For a fun hype song that is sure to get people on the dance floor, this song will do the trick. It is also a hit of Swift’s friend Selena Gomez and her now-husband Benny Blanco, sweetly shouting them out on the special day.
“Pump Up the Jam” by Technotronic: This funky throwback is one of Kelce’s favorites, he said on American Songwriter, and it is a great song to keep the vibes going on the dance floor.
Congratulations to the happy couple and I can’t wait to see how the wedding of a lifetime plays out!
