The Nueva School gym was packed with energy, school spirit, and a sea of black as students showed up dressed in theme for Nueva’s highly anticipated basketball Spirit Night. Featuring three exciting matchups—Boys JV, Boys Varsity, and Girls Varsity—Nueva faced off against KIIP San Jose Collegiate, and all three Nueva teams walked away with wins.
The Boys JV team kicked things off with a strong performance, securing a 40-26 victory. Their momentum set the tone for the evening and energized the crowd early on. Boys Varsity followed with an impressive 49-26 win, showcasing sharp ball movement and strong defense. The Girls Varsity team closed out the night in dominant fashion, earning a 43-23 victory and completing Nueva’s clean 3-0 sweep.
Beyond the action on the court, Spirit Night introduced something entirely new: halftime games. For the first time, Nueva hosted student competitions during halftime, which were an immediate hit.
During halftime of the Boys JV game, two students went head-to-head in a shooting challenge that required a successful layup, free throw, and three-pointer for a chance to win a $10 gift card. Tori N ‘29 emerged victorious, drawing cheers from classmates and players alike.
The next game challenged participants to make a half-court shot. Beckett B ‘26 nailed the shot and took home the prize, sending the gym into a frenzy.
The fun continued during the Boys Varsity halftime, when both games were repeated. This time, both Roshan T. ‘27 and Rohan K ‘26 claimed victory in the half-court shot competition, each earning a gift card!
Spirit Night proved to be more than just a series of basketball games; it was a celebration of school unity, creativity, and community. With undefeated results and a successful debut of halftime games, Spirit Night has set a new standard for future events. If this night was any indication, Nueva basketball and Nueva spirit are stronger than ever. 🏀🖤
