The girls soccer team entered the season with a familiar expectation: league dominance and a push into the Central Coast Season (CCS) postseason.
“We’ve been really close [to winning],” said Juliet Chen ’26, one of the team’s captains. “This year, hopefully, we’ll get the dub.”
Despite injuries in the lead-up to the season, Chen said the team looks strong and is settling into a rhythm as players reconnect on the field.
The squad is working to reestablish its style of play with a focus on offensive movement, possession, and chemistry developed over multiple seasons.
“We’re focusing on getting comfortable playing with each other [and] just knowing each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and how to compensate for them,” Chen said.
Off the field, the captains have emphasized team cohesion as a foundation for consistent on-field play, organizing carpools, team dinners, and other bonding activities to integrate players across grades.
“When everyone works well as a team, it helps to improve everyone individually,” said Maya Mangalpady ’28.
That emphasis on chemistry also shapes the team’s goals. Beating Crystal—the team’s rival—remains a priority.
“Second to winning CCS is beating Crystal on the list of our goals,” Chen said. “It’s always a toss-up between our teams.”
For Chen, the season carries added meaning as her final year with the squad.
“It’s my senior season, so I’m just excited to leave it all on the field and cherish the bonds I’ve made,” she said.
