Keeping you in the loop on the Nueva Upper School.

The Nueva Current is a student-run newspaper that has grown from a minor news website to an official school newspaper, providing members of the Nueva community with articles, updates, and opinion pieces. Although it started in 2016 as a small news source with only one member, the paper was officially founded as a student publication in the fall of 2017, and put out our first print issue then, as well, with a staff of less than a dozen members. Now, The Current has six editors and almost two dozen staff and contributors, and we welcome submissions to grow our contributing members!

Our Mission

The Current is dedicated to providing students a platform for sharing stories and experiencing events from their peers’ perspectives.

For this reason, all students are encouraged to suggest content to the site via the Contact page. Approved content is published on the site and shared with the community.

EDITORS

Willow Taylor C. Y.

Willow Taylor C. Y.

Editor-in-Chief

Willow, the Editor-in-Chief since 2018 and a politic-loving breed of Asian American, joined The Nueva Current her freshman year as the Managing Editor. Her goals for the paper include expanding the influence and reputation of the paper, establishing structure for future generations, and eliminating writers’ fears of the semicolon and em-dash.

She enjoys a lot of things to an unhealthily large amount: politics (governmental and personal), food, reading, bouts of both procrastinating and working, playing volleyball, Aaron Sorkin works, and code-switching.

Isabel C.

Isabel C.

Managing Editor

Joining the paper in the fall of 2017 of her sophomore year, Isabel started her journalism career as the paper’s Culture Editor in their staff of nine. Despite not being enrolled in the official journalism class for the fall of 2018, Isabel worked outside of her other classes to produce work for the paper, and became the paper’s first Managing Editor. Back in the class once more in the spring of 2019, Isabel aims to help produce engaging pieces of work with other staff members that represent the opinions and thoughts of the staff and student body.

In her free time, Isabel can be found competing gymnastics, eating food, working at the local candy store, reading, or snuggling with her two cats.

Jordan M.

Jordan M.

Design Editor/Club Co-Lead

Jordan, the Design Editor of the paper this year, began his career at The Nueva Current in his freshman year as a staff writer. His main goal for the paper is to achieve a style that speaks to the school’s culture, the community, and the articles that are contained within each issue. He enjoys traveling and photographing various places around the world, eating and making food, playing soccer, and is interested in studying psychology.

Elizabeth B-P

Elizabeth B-P

Outside of school, she does all sorts of writing work—short stories, poetry, novels, screenplays, anything—and loves Netflix binges, Toblerone chocolate, and good books. She is currently working on her twelfth novel and participates in NaNoWriMo annually.
